Honey is one of the staple creature of Alice Soft's fantasy world. They resemble short vertical cylinders with a round top, with three big holes for eyes and mouth, and two small round stumps on the sides (on the level of the mouth) for hands. There is no discernable lowerbody or legs, they most likely move around by hopping, though a few of the species may be capable of levitation. Their name is derived from ancient Japanese metalworks and carvings, referred to as "haniwa", whom they distinctly resemble and were likely inspired by.

While they somewhat resemble the Cactuars of Final Fantasy, Honey appeared in Alice Soft's first game, Rance 1, which predates the earliest appearance of Cactuar in the Final Fantasy series.

Honeys after Rance 4 have magic immunity as a racial trait. Most Honey are capable of using the Honey Flash attack, which by Rance 4 changed from a magic attack to a defense-ignoring attack.

When they are hurt, they cry "A-i-ya~".

Typical honeys are protrayed as being extremely silly or wacky, and often with weird fetishes.

The name of Honey is written in katagana most of the time. In Rance 4.1, the Honey's icon is annotated as "Hanny". However, in "Rance the Complete Guide - Chronicle" published later, the English word "Honey" was used throughout the column describing them.

When referring to the species as a whole, the term Haniwa (ハニワ) is used, proving they are a reference to the Japanese funeral clay figures haniwa.

Girl Honeys are called Haniko (ハニ子).

• Honey - the plain Honey, brown
• Double Honey - Two Honey connected at the bottom
• Triple Honey
• Green Honey - the typical low-level honey, stronger than the plain honey. Usually wields a trident in the right hand.
• Blue Honey - stronger than green. Usually wields a trident in the left hand.
• Red Honey - stronger than blue. Usually wields one trident in each hand.
• Black Honey - stronger than red. Wields fireworks in each hand.
• Super Honey - stronger than black. Golden color, with an "S" marked on their body.
• Fiendish Honey
• Secret Honey - they look like secrete agents. "Honey In Black"
• Honey Slime
• Honey Slime Beth
• Golden Honey - Giant huge honey made of gold. Their corpses is the only source of gold in the Rance world.
• Happiness Green Honey - about the same strength as Green Honey, but gives a lot more experience points.
• Honey Knight
• Petite Honey - tiny orange honey that self-explodes to kill you when their health is low.
• Honey Mother
• Haniko
• Honey King - The most powerful Honey in existence, he only appears occasionally as an optional sidequest boss or as a background NPC.
