Hanny (often also spelled as Honey) is one of the staple creature of Alice Soft's fantasy world. They resemble short vertical cylinders with a round top, with three big holes for eyes and mouth, and two small round stumps on the sides (on the level of the mouth) for hands. There is no discernible lowerbody or legs, they most likely move around by hopping, though a few of the species may be capable of levitation.

While they somewhat resemble the Cactuars of Final Fantasy, Hanny appeared in Alice Soft's first game, Rance 1, which predates the earliest appearance of Cactuar in the Final Fantasy series.

Hannys after Rance 4 have magic immunity as a racial trait. Most Hanny are capable of using the Honey Flash attack, which by Rance 4 changed from a magic attack to a defense-ignoring attack.

When they are hurt, they cry "A-i-ya~".

Typical Hannys are portrayed as being extremely silly or wacky, and often with weird fetishes.

The name of Hanny is written in katagana most of the time.

• In Rance 4.1, the Hanny's icon is annotated as "Hanny".
• In "Rance the Complete Guide - Chronicle" published later, the English word "Honey" was used throughout the column describing them.
• In Toushin Toshi 3, their theme song is titled "Hanny".

When referring to the species as a whole, the term Haniwa (ハニワ) is used, proving they are a reference to the Japanese funeral clay figures haniwa.

Girl Honeys are called Haniko (ハニ子).

• Hanny - the plain Honey, brown
• Green Hanny - the typical low-level honey, stronger than the plain honey. Usually wields a trident in the right hand.
• Blue Hanny - stronger than green. Usually wields a trident in the left hand.
• Red Hanny - stronger than blue. Usually wields one trident in each hand.
• Black Hanny - stronger than red. Wields fireworks in each hand.
• Double Hanny - Two Honey connected at the bottom
• Triple Hanny
• Super Hanny - stronger than black. Golden color, with an "S" marked on their body.
• Fiendish Hanny
• Secret Hanny - they look like secrete agents. "Hanny In Black"
• Hanny Slime
• Hanny Slime Beth
• Golden Hanny - Giant huge honey made of gold. Their corpses is the only source of gold in the Rance world.
• Happiness Green Hanny - about the same strength as Green Hanny, but gives a lot more experience points.
• Hanny Knight
• Petite (Puchi) Hanny - tiny orange honey that self-explodes to kill you in-game when their health is low. They also have a tendency to self destruct if they experience some sort of intense sensation/irritation. They cannot stand contact with semen.
• Hanny Mother
• Haniko
• Hanny King - The most powerful Hanny in existence, he only appears occasionally as an optional sidequest boss or as a background NPC.
• Hanny Shogun - appears at Galzoo for a side quest the leader of Samurai Honey.
• Samurai Honey - Honey with traditional Japanese clothes and spear. Appear in GalZoo as side quest.
