JAPAN is a nation floating off the south east of the main continent in the World of Rance. It is connected to the main continent by the Tenman Bridge.

Because of the separation from the main continent, it has developed a very unique culture.

JAPAN is under a type of feudal system, with the lord of major houses each ruling their own territories (provinces). At times when there is no strong leadership, JAPAN goes into a warring states period ("sengoku"), where houses openly fight each other to gain territory.

NC0321 - The Holy Beast Orochi crashed into the main continent, splitting off a chunk of land that became the island nation of JAPAN.

NC068X - 藤原石丸 obtained the three divine artificts and unified JAPAN. With youkai also joining his ranks, he conquered half the main continent in half a year.

NC0705 - The Demon King Nighcisa ordered the Demon Xavier to eliminate the arrogant humans. Under the overwhelming force of Zabieru, 藤原石丸 was defeated and the 藤原 house destroyed, but the remaining people were able to seal Xavier.

GI0001 - Xavier was awakened. However, the Tenshiism was able to seal him again.

GI01?? - The 平氏 and the 源氏 fought, the second sengoku era.

GI0362 - The Holy Magic Church occupied the entire JAPAN.

GI0455 - The Ashikaga House obtained victory in the third sengoku era and unified JAPAN.

GI0500 - Xavier awakened again, and ravaged JAPAN with his four acolytes. Tenshiism and a yuusha wielding the holy sword Sunlight sealed him for the third time. Xavier sealed into 8 different gourds, to be guarded by 8 daimyos.

GI0910 - The collapse of the Ashikaga House. The beginning of the fourth sengoku era.

GI1012 - The Great Youkai War.
